Southlake Carroll Target Team Safety Rules and Code of Conduct
As a member of the Southlake Carroll Target Team, you have been given a unique privilege to participate in this sport.
Due to the nature of the activity, we demand the highest level of maturity and respect from all athletes. We participate
in a sport where any mistake could cause catastrophic consequences and with that, we have a strict code of conduct
that will be enforced by our Coaches and supported by our Board of Directors.
Safety Rules
Safety is our number one priority and each athlete MUST adhere to a few basic safety rules for continued participation.
These Safety Rules are as follows:

Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction.

Keep your firearm unloaded until ready to use.

Keep action of the gun open until you are ready to shoot.

Keep your finger OFF the trigger guard area until ready to shoot.

Be familiar with your firearm and know how to use it safely.

Always be sure your firearm is clean and safe to operate.

Do not bring any firearm or ammunition on school property at any time.
If any of these Safety Rules are violated, the athlete will be sent home and it will be the responsibility of the coaching
staff (coaches and/or coordinators) to meet with the athlete’s registered parent(s) or guardian(s) to address the
concerns before the athlete can re-engage in team activities. If there is a second Safety Rule violation, the student will
be sent home and, subject to SCTT board review, the student may be removed from the team without refund of monies
paid.
Code of Conduct
In addition to safety, the athletes are expected to follow our Code of Conduct by being respectful of all fellow team
members, parents, coaches, referees, and other competitors representing our team with pride whenever participating in
a shooting event or activity. Blatant violations of common courtesy, including heckling, bullying, trash talking, shell
throwing, abuse of equipment, verbal outburst, or disobedience of coaching staff will not be tolerated and will result in
immediate removal from shooting at a practice or tournament. Athletes are required to maintain (clean and in good
condition) and to wear the team jersey and vest at all team competitions or league events and to wear the team vest at all team practices as directed by team’s leadership. In the event that an athlete does not yet have a team vest or jersey due to purchase delivery timing, the athlete must wear another school-colored shirt and acceptable pouch or other shell carrier. In no event should the athlete wear items promoting or referencing another competitive shooting team.
Without regard to availability of team uniform components, an athlete may wear an honorific uniform item, such as an All-State jersey, at an event sponsored by the awarding league during the year for which the honor was earned. For example, athletes selected to the SCTP All-State team may wear the All-State jersey at the year-end STCP events as suggested by SCTP. The athlete is still expected to wear the remaining required SCTT uniform items. During cold weather competitions, the athletes are encouraged to wear school-colored layers or jackets. Amendments to these rules may be set forth by the Leadership and Coaching Staff of SCTT.
Lastly, athletes are required to follow the rules of the school district and the team will respect any disciplinary action implemented by the district.

In accordance to the violation(s) of the Code of Conduct the coaching staff will be guided by the following order:
1) Warning – Verbal or Written
2) Miss Practice
3) Miss Tournament / Removal of Title
4) Removal from Team Remainder of Year

Any violations of these rules resulting in any action listed above, other than a warning – verbal or written, will carry over and be considered in any Code of Conduct violation actions taken in subsequent years.

Continuous violations of Code of Conduct, or those that are deemed severe by the coaching staff, will be subject to SCTT board review which may result in suspension of an athlete’s shooting privileges with the team and possible permanent removal from the team without refund of monies paid.

I/We understand that violation of the SCTT Code of Conduct by my athlete will result in immediate
suspension, disciplinary action and/or dismissal of my/our athlete from the SCTT, as outlined above.
I/We agree to immediately report to SCTT Head Coach any of the following involving my athlete:
1. Any violation of the Carroll ISD or SCTT Code of Conduct;
2. Any disciplinary action taken by Carroll ISD or any of its schools;
3. Any violation or alleged violation of a federal, state or local law, code, rule or ordinance;
4. Any arrest or detainment by law enforcement; and
5. Any allegation of bodily harm to another person.
I/We understand that failure to report the activities listed above may result in immediate suspension,
disciplinary action and/or dismissal of my/our athlete from SCTT.

I/We understand that violation of this Agreement will result in immediate
suspension, disciplinary action and/or dismissal of my/our athlete from the SCTT.

I/We agree to immediately report to SCTT Head Coach ANY disciplinary action taken by Carroll ISD or any of its schools.

As a parent or guardian of an athlete in the Southlake Carroll Target Team, YOUR actions reflect not only on you, but your child, his/her team and the club. As a parent in the Southlake Carroll Target Team, you agree to abide by and follow the rules and guidelines:
I understand that the use of foul language towards anyone (coaches, teammates, officials, opponents or spectators) will not be tolerated. I will not engage in any language or actions with the intent to initiate, hurt, intimidate or humiliate any athlete, coach, official or spectator. I will not tolerate these acts from any athletes, coaches or adults associated with SCTT. These acts shall be considered harassment and will result in the immediate removal from the practice, tournament or event.
I will not post on any social media site with the intent to initiate, hurt, intimidate or humiliate any athlete, coach, official or spectator. The posting of negative, demeaning or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. These acts shall be considered harassment and may result in the immediate removal from the team. Furthermore, if I see anything of concern from or about an official, another SCTT coach, athlete or team member on a social media site, I will immediately contact my child’s coach or the Southlake Carroll Target Team Board. As a parent, I understand that I am accountable for the actions of my child on social media sites. I will stress to my child the importance of proper conduct on these sites and provide parental oversight to prevent any type of cyber-bullying by my child.
I (and my family/guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, athlete or parent such as booing, taunting or using profane language or gestures. I will maintain self control at tournaments, practices and other team events.
I (and my family/guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and demonstrate positive support for all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators at every tournament, practice or event. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes. I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence. I will demand that my child treat all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators with respect. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a game.
I will not complain or become confrontational about calls made by the officials and I will respect the officials and their decisions at all times- in the event that an officials decision is not agreed with, I will notify the SCTT coach immediately and they will act on our behalf.
I will support the coaches, allow them to do their job by not coaching my child or other athletes during tournaments. I will not openly question or confront coaches before, during or after tournaments. I will take the time to speak with coaches about any concerns calmly, privately and at an agreed upon time and place.
I will promote the emotional and physical well being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I have for my child or his/her team to win.
I will inform the coach of any physical disability, illness or injury that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
I realize that if I violate this Code of Conduct I may be subject to disciplinary action that could include one or more, but not limited to the following: -Verbal warning by Head Coach and/or SCTT Board -Written Warning -Parental tournament suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by SCTT. -Parental Season suspension -Parental Suspension from all future SCTT Tournaments, Practices and Events
By indicating below, the Parent/Guardian agrees to abide by and be subject to this Code of Conduct.

As a member of the Southlake Carroll Target Team, you are required to comply with any and all State and Federal Laws regarding firearms ownership, possession, use, operation and transportation. Team members are also required to know the district, school, and team rules and agree to abide by them.
To be signed by parent or legal guardian of Southlake Carroll Target Team member if student athlete is under 18 years of age.

The undersigned agrees as follows:
1. At no point, will students bring any firearm or ammunition on any school property. Failure to follow these rules will result in immediate permanent removal from the team roster as well as punishment by law enforcement and school authorities.

2. Possession of a firearm by the mentally ill is regulated by both state and federal laws.
Under 18 U.S.C. § 922(d), it is unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person “has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.” Texas law prohibits the ownership and carrying of guns by those with certain psychiatric diagnoses, including schizophrenia, delusional disorder, bipolar disorder, chronic dementia, dissociative identity disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, and antisocial personality disorder. In addition, gun restrictions are in place for five years following an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization, inpatient or residential treatment for substance abuse, diagnosis of alcohol or drug dependence, or diagnosis of mental illness by a licensed physician. I fully understand the law and represent and warrant that my child is legally able to carry or own a gun.

3. I understand that, as an exception to Board policy, students will be allowed to provide their own transportation to and from Southlake Carroll Target Team activities. I understand that my child will not be under the direct supervision of school or Southlake Carroll Target Team personnel during transportation to and from any Southlake Carroll Target Team activity. I waive, release, and hold harmless Southlake Carroll Target Team , school and/or school personnel for accidents, injuries, or damages caused by my child or sustained by my child while traveling to and from any and all Southlake Carroll Target Team activities.

4. I am also aware that the Texas law on minors driving with firearms and ammunition is vague, and may be subject to future interpretation. I give permission for my child to drive himself/herself to and from Southlake Carroll Target Team activities with firearms and ammunition and will not hold Southlake Carroll Target Team responsible for the consequences of his/her actions.

5. In consideration for receiving permission to participate in the activities of the Southlake Carroll Target Team, I hereby release, waive, discharge and indemnify Southlake Carroll Target Team and its members, coaches, and trained volunteers (“Releasees”), from any all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death that may be sustained by me while participating in any Southlake Carroll Target Team activities, whether caused by the negligence of the Releasees or otherwise.

6. I am fully aware of the risks involved and hazards connected with Southlake Carroll Target Team’s activities, including the risk of injury or death. I (or my minor child) elect to voluntarily participate in these activities with full knowledge that they may be hazardous. I voluntarily assume the risk of loss, property damage, personal injury, and/or death that may be sustained by me or my heirs and assigns as a result of my (or my minor child) engaging in such activities, whether caused by the negligence of Releasees or otherwise.

7. I further herby agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Releasees from any loss, liability, damage or costs, including court costs and attorneys’ fees, that they may incur due to my (or my minor child) participating in Southlake Carroll Target Team activities, whether caused by the contributory negligence of Releasees or otherwise.

8. I understand that that Southlake Carroll Target Team’s insurance through Scholastic Clay Target Program(“SCTP”) only covers practices that are supervised by a Head Coach, Assistant Coach/Adult Volunteer who is registered with SCTP. I am aware that I should review my own personal insurance coverage as no such losses or liability will be covered when practicing/competing on my own. I agree that I (or my minor child) will take no action that would invalidate any SCTP insurance policy.

9. I understand that this Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement binds the members of my family if I am alive, and my heirs, or personal representative if I am deceased and shall be deemed as a release, waiver, discharge and covenant not to sue the above-named Releasees and as an agreement to indemnify, defend and hold Southlake Carroll Target Team harmless against any claims. This agreement shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas.
